ABOUT US
Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey is in the grounds of the world famous Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The house opened in 1993 with just 26 family rooms,
funding of £1.5 million came from Ronald McDonald Children's Charities and the Hospital 6 years ago the house grew to 30 rooms and then in 2005 to 69 rooms.
This followed the building of a £2.2 million annexe with monies donated from Ronald
McDonald Children's Charities, the Hospital and other donors and the families raised in excess of £1 million.
Since 1993 the house has been full to
bursting with mums and dads and other family members of those
critically ill children in Alder Hey Hospital. In total we have
accommodated over 13,000 families totally free of charge for as
long as it takes. Some stay just a few days, some several weeks
and some for up to a couple of years. The children have varied
conditions many have heart problems, others have cancer or
leukaemia, some need neuro-surgery. Many children are in hospital
as a result of a serious accident. The children range in age from
newly delivered babies right through to 18 years. Many families
become very close to the House and support our work both
financially and in kind.
We can't do it without their support.

Alder Hey Family House Trust is the charity
that governs Ronald McDonald House. The charity is totally
independent and depends upon voluntary donations to keep the House
operational. A board of trustees makes sure that the Charity
operates within the law with fifteen board members there is a
broad spectrum of experience including finance, law, property
management, fundraising, human resources and health. If you feel
that you could support the House by serving on the Board of
Trustees or a sub-committee please contact the House Director on

The House is managed by
a small but dedicated staff team and a team of volenteers. There
are four full time members of staff, Jan Thomas (House Director),
Lynne Wright (Operations Manager), Lorna Bryant (Family Support
Worker), Denise Byrne (Fundraising Administrator) and three
